Ok so here is my "Daddy's Lullaby" piece...and yet again do you think I need a background.
Let me elaborate on this piece. When i was little and i couldnt fall alseep normally someone would have to sing to me. Well normally my mom did that but on rare occations my dad would sing to me. And one of his special songs was "i gave my love a cherry":
Let me elaborate on this piece. When i was little and i couldnt fall alseep normally someone would have to sing to me. Well normally my mom did that but on rare occations my dad would sing to me. And one of his special songs was "i gave my love a cherry":
I gave my love a cherry, that had no stoneI gave my love a chicken, that had no boneI gave my love a ring, that had no endI gave my love a baby, with no cryin'How can there be a cherry, that has no stoneHow can there be a chicken, that has no boneHow can there be a ring, that has no endHow can there be a baby, with no cryin'A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stoneA chicken when it's hatchin', it has no boneA ring when it's rollin', it has no endA baby when it's sleepin, there's no cryin'
And so the flowers are cherries bloming
The egg shell is for, A chicken in the egg shell - it has no stone
The egg shell is for, A chicken in the egg shell - it has no stone
The words shadowing some of the flowers, is love in italian, french, and english portraying the story of love - it has no end
And the baby sleeping on the feather is the baby sleeping with no crying
And the baby sleeping on the feather is the baby sleeping with no crying
The music note represent my dad singing, and you might be wondering where the feather comes in because obviously its not from a chicken =) Ok, so also not only would he sing to me but he would trace a feather over my face to calm me down...apparently little one's like that or at least i did.
Well here you go: oh and it was done with colored pencils

Hey workbig!
I was hoping when I opened the site this time there would be something new on it! Thanks for not disappointing me.
This is so sweet. I can tell it comes from the heart. The combination of objects makes the image truly unique. The baby looks so safe and cozy.
Ok, so let's talk specifics. First, I'm impressed that you used colored pencils. If this is as large as your others (or even close) this took a very long time. Great persistence on your part!
I want you to look at the image and see how most of the objects have only one main color, with highlights and shadows. This technique isolates objects - it separates each one, in a way. That can be a little problematic in that it makes it difficult to have true unity. Each "thing" is doing its onw thing and not working toward the whole. There is an easy fix for that though. Using only the colors you have already used, can you repeat colors in a variety of places throughout the composition? For example, maybe the baby's blanket could have some of the green of the musical notes. This is just an example. Objects can have a number of colors each and as the colors dance around the page, so does the viewer's eye. It will also result in a greater depth of form (an added bonus).
The lettering might benefit from some color(s) within the outlines. That's just an opinion.
I do think you need a little something in the background. Think about where this baby would be in your mind - in the woods, on a cloud, on a lilypad on a lake. Then SUGGEST enough of that in the background to keep the whole thing from floating in nothingness. It will make the whole image richer and give the viewer some frame of reference.
Amanda I am really impressed with this work! It is a very special piece.
Take a look at some images of faeries and their eenvironments - stardust, fireflies, floating leaves. These kinds of things might be a great addition to the ambience of the piece and the entire background can be lightly sketched in, with varying degrees of development, not done as strongly or as powerfully as the foreground.
I love it! Good work!
Thank you so much for all your advice. The feather had a bunch of colors in it...i dont think you can really tell, and the letters have some pink in it but i wil certainly try to incorporate the colors more so the piece flows. And i will certainly jump on the whole background information. =)
Thanks for being so open to additional ideas.
I saw the blue and pink in the feather (sorry for missing that the first time). Add slowly, until YOU are happy with it.
I love seeing your work.
