Things to do..

I realized today that I have four projects going on at once. Why.. well I really have no idea. But here they are in order of progress.
1) Watercolor- I just need to finish the leaves.
2) Comic for one year anniversary w/ boyfriend- I need to edit some things in Photoshop.
3) Giant landscape- Needs farm, trees, and field.
4) Mandala- Concept and sketches are done, deciding if it should be watercolor, acrylic, or pencil.
So that's what I'll be up to for the next week. I'll post the sketches of the mandala. If you can't tell what is going on I'm sorry, I'm very messy at first drafts.
That's about it, my birthday's on Monday so I'll be an adult in just a few days... *sob* Oh well, I can still act as immature as I always have. ^^

Woah 'Zilla! Looks like you have a lot to keep you busy.
I like that you're keeping it all organized by making lists. I'm a list person myself. It's the best way for me to stay on top of things.
Now for your work. I'm seeing a much more confident quality in these sketches. Although you refer to them as messy, they have a lot of energy. That shows me you have a lot of enthusiasm for what you're doing.
I'm also seeing a mixture of image and text. That tells me you're "processing" or thinking about what you're doing - not just doing. Keep up the good work. You are really becoming an artist in the true sense of the word! I have a feeling this year will be a very good one for you; not necessarily always easy, but good. Besides you feel much more a sense of accomplishment when you've worked for it! ;-]

Thanks Mama B!
By the way I had a question, on what you think I should use from the mandala. I want to do the foreground and background, then on top of the foreground I want to draw in transparent light coming from the circle. Do you know what medium would be best to do this with? I was thinking maybe a mixture of markers and acrylics, but I'm not too sure.

That's a weird thing to predict.
I used to think that you shouldn't mix 2 such different media. I don't say that with such conviction anymore. The whole mixed media "revolution" has changed my thinking and there is a great deal more acceptance for mixing materials now.
Having said that, my best advice is to do some small "studies" or samples on the substrate (or paper) you will be using for the final piece.
Just experiment using a variety of applications and combinations of materials. These studies don't have to be complicated or detailed. You are just checking to see how the materials work together; how they appear on the paper. If they "feel right" then I say go ahead.
If you look at the samples and are distracted by the way the materials interact, then you need to choose one over the other. It's better to have a harmonious piece than a piece that "keeps shouting at you" about what materials have been used to create it. A harmonious piece will convey the message of the image, not be all about the materials.
There are times when you want to exploit the materials but that is a whole different matter - and it must be your primary purpose in order for that to work well.
Research is not only about looking up information in books and on Google. Research can also be experimenting with the actual "stuff" to see how it works best.
Sorry I couldn't just say:"Do this!" You already know however that art doesn't have just one right answer, and what works for me may not work for you (and the reverse is also true).
So play with an open mind - and see where that takes you.
Here's another thought: When you make your samples you can scan them and we can discuss those too if you can't decide.
Have fun - and I mean that. I'm not being mean. >:-/
