This doesn't have anything to do with my summer art, but I was wondering if you knew anything that was going on about art club this year. I haven't heard from Stephanie and gaggle isn't working for me so I'm not sure if there were any leadership council meetings or something on the matter.
I was hoping to better organize it this year so I typed up a packet for the girls telling them the activities we'll be doing and the supplies they'll need for each. I'm going to be putting the date of the meetings next to the activities that they correspond to and am giving the girls instructions for the activities as well. The only problem is I have no idea how many meetings we'll be having so I typed up six activities thinking that may be enough. I don't know if you'd know anything about this or not, but I thought it might be good to ask.
Oh and I made a design for this year's T-Shirt too so I can hand out order forms first meeting. Yay for organization!

Finished

So, here's my mandala piece. Honestly I hate it. I don't even have anything to say about learning anything from the experience. I was really happy with the finished sketch and ink, but once I got down to coloring it I started to lose interest. I don't know, maybe it's just me or do I color really badly? Ah, well I guess there's nothing I can do about it but practice more for now. So now to list the materials I used eh heh heh; it's done on watercolor paper, the girl is outlined in micron and colored with watercolor/copic markers, the background is done in acrylic, the eyes of the demons are done in watercolor, the red glow coming from the alchemy symbol was Photoshopped as well as the red glow on her clothes. So start the critiques because I know I went wrong somewhere I just don't know where.Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Gone But Not Forgotten... I Hope :-)
This time I'm posting to let you know I will NOT be posting for a while. On Saturday I leave for a class out of town. I think I told you I got a scholarship to Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
Well, the class starts this week and orientation is on Sunday at 1pm. I am driving so I'm leaving a day ahead. I don't want to have to leave at 2am or so. :-/
It's a drawing class and is supposed to be a really good one. I am scheduled to be in the classroom from 8:30am until 4:30pm every day. After dinner the studios are open until 10pm. I know this sounds intense but that's the way I like it, especially when I'm away from home. It makes me feel as though it was worth the effort.
So please continue to post without me and understand that I might not answer this week. I won't take my tablet; I have enough other things to organize. If I have access to a computer that allows me to post, maybe I'll surprise you! :-)
In the meantime, have a good week and I'll return next Saturday the 26th. My plants are doing well this summer. I hope someone remembers to water them while I'm gone. *crosses fingers* :-}

Hiya
I haven't posted in a while so here I am! Anywho, things are coming along for me. I finished my boyfriends mini comic today and am almost done with my mandala piece. I finally found a way that works for the leaves in my last watercolor so that is finished. Things that are missing in the mandala are the details on the shadow creatures eyes and some background detail, it has changed a lot from the beginning sketch and I feel it's much better the way it is now. So once I take pictures of that and my watercolor I'll post them. I hope everyones summers are going great and Sydney says hi to everybody. I'll post again soon, but for now bye bye. ^^

By the way we're saying I love you to each other. Hahaha, we decided to code it into robot talk to freak out anyone who happened to be around us. I hope you all enjoy it!

hey so im sitting here at my computer and for the first time in forever i have nothing to do! so i thought id blog...
so anyway, i have a situation with my summer assignments: bc ive really been getting into my artworks stuff (which by the way ive created about 4 graphic designs for the project so far, i'll have to find a way to post them another time. but by the end i hope to have about 10 designs, but im not sure if that'll happen) and neway i really LOVE the whole graphic design thing and have so many other ideas outside of my artworks designs that i want to create. We've been working a lot with illustator and a lil photoshop, but i don't have access to either program outside of the art academy and my parents wont buy it bc its too expensive. idk if mnd has illustator, but maybe i'll just have to hold off on that until i can figure it out. i do have other ideas that dont involve a computer, but right now at work its crunch time and i havent even had a chance to get good sleep without waking up and having to sketch an idea in the middle of the night. its basically art 24/7 haha, so i'll be glad when things can calm down.
We just had our midpoint check, where we had to get up and present our designs to a big crowd while beening videotaped. yeah, i was nervous. afterward, we had a big talk with the ppl incharge of the whole project and so now they want us to fix the current designs and then completely start all over again and they want us to explore better consepts. so we were all kinda freaking out at first but it'll work out some how. sry, i just realized how long this post is :) so i'll stop for now

Here is another piece as well.....this is my hand in chains. I think I might call it "Pain".
Yet again its not a real warm fuzzy piece. It's different from anything I've ever done before. Surprisingly I really had fun creating this, maybe it was because it was different or maybe because it was something ive experienced. I used charcoal, ebony, and white paint. There's only bad thing, since i used ebony and took a picture of it, the lighting caught the ebony's shine at the top of the picture (the top links). The top parts of the chains look like the other links in the entire chain in the real drawing. So here it is:

Ok so here is my "Daddy's Lullaby" piece...and yet again do you think I need a background.
Let me elaborate on this piece. When i was little and i couldnt fall alseep normally someone would have to sing to me. Well normally my mom did that but on rare occations my dad would sing to me. And one of his special songs was "i gave my love a cherry":

I gave my love a cherry, that had no stoneI gave my love a chicken, that had no boneI gave my love a ring, that had no endI gave my love a baby, with no cryin'How can there be a cherry, that has no stoneHow can there be a chicken, that has no boneHow can there be a ring, that has no endHow can there be a baby, with no cryin'A cherry when it's bloomin', it has no stoneA chicken when it's hatchin', it has no boneA ring when it's rollin', it has no endA baby when it's sleepin, there's no cryin'
And so the flowers are cherries bloming
The egg shell is for, A chicken in the egg shell - it has no stone
The egg shell is for, A chicken in the egg shell - it has no stone
The words shadowing some of the flowers, is love in italian, french, and english portraying the story of love - it has no end
And the baby sleeping on the feather is the baby sleeping with no crying
And the baby sleeping on the feather is the baby sleeping with no crying
The music note represent my dad singing, and you might be wondering where the feather comes in because obviously its not from a chicken =) Ok, so also not only would he sing to me but he would trace a feather over my face to calm me down...apparently little one's like that or at least i did.
Well here you go: oh and it was done with colored pencils

Unconventional art
So my best friend Elena just got shipped in from New York for her summerly visit to Ohio. Of course this means I have a whole new plethora of drawing inspiration and you tube videos to watch.
Everyone watch this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_HPvAhnG_w&feature=user Right there, that link copy and paste it now! It's absolutely crazy and ridiculous and amazing! I've been inspired to do a drawing in mascara because it looks so fun and awesome.
I hope everyone's summers are going great and that you are inspired to make your own crazy art. =]

update
OK so I'm trying to figure out how to post my drawing...called "Daddy's Lullaby"... but i think my printer/scanner is too small. So i might just have to take a picture of it. I also might have some questions- like if i should put a background in or not because it's very colorful.
Update on what I've been up to, a lot of stuff in mind:
1) since the "Daddy's Lullaby" was kinda in dedication to my dad...i had a feeling my mom was left out so i decided to do something she'd love, but its not turning out so well. It's three small portraits. one of her mom, her godmother, and finally her in the middle of the two. They are wedding pictures, and i have a wedding frame to fit all three. I have the godmother finished but I'm not too satisfied so i really need to keep working on that.
2) pop up book: I've drawn practically all the characters so i want to jump on that soon.
3) I know this is going to sound really strange but I'm going to draw my hand twisted in chains....this happened to me like a week ago- nearly tore my thumb off, but even though it hurt like...well it hurt =)...i think it might be fun to draw and even if the picture might not send a smile on someones face or make them feel all warm and tingly inside i think it may still bring out some feeling hopefully.
I have other projects in mind but those are the main ones I'm focusing on.
PS - BEWARE OF PLAY SET TIRE SWINGS!

An Actual Piece Finished in Uber 3-D

Ok so here is a piece of work I have been "tweaking" for quite some time now. I think I started it before school was out.
It was done using one of my own photos, taken at the Renaissance Festival last fall. It is altered using a technique called a "fake tilt-shift". The goal is to take a regular image and through the use of masks and filters in Photoshop, try to make the image look REALLY 3-D.
This was a fun image to work with, but probably more complicated than it should have been for a first try. I don't know why I tend to make choices like that. :-/ But overall, I am pretty pleased with the outcome for a first piece. It is meant to have a kind of fairytale effect, which is why I think I zeroed in on this particular subject matter.
There are lens for a regular 35mm camera that do something similar to this on the negative while the picture is being taken, but if it is done using Photoshop then it seems the artist would have more specific control over where and how the details are altered.
I will probably try it again using some subject matter that is entirely different. I am still working through the reasoning in my head for which parts are blurred and which are crisp. I suspect that is negotiated depending on the subject matter, or the message of the print, or both.
Like any other method of creating I'm sure a good deal of how the choices are made are really a reflection of one's personal artistic voice. And as always, figuring that out takes time.
So I'm counting this as one of my summer pieces. :-}
Things to do..
I realized today that I have four projects going on at once. Why.. well I really have no idea. But here they are in order of progress.
1) Watercolor- I just need to finish the leaves.
2) Comic for one year anniversary w/ boyfriend- I need to edit some things in Photoshop.
3) Giant landscape- Needs farm, trees, and field.
4) Mandala- Concept and sketches are done, deciding if it should be watercolor, acrylic, or pencil.
So that's what I'll be up to for the next week. I'll post the sketches of the mandala. If you can't tell what is going on I'm sorry, I'm very messy at first drafts.
That's about it, my birthday's on Monday so I'll be an adult in just a few days... *sob* Oh well, I can still act as immature as I always have. ^^

OMG! It's July Already!
Hey you all! As if you didn't already notice, time is ticking. One of the reasons I started this blog was to try to encourage you to make art throughout the whole summer. I didn't want you to try to rush through it all at the last minute. You know when you do things that way they often don't turn out well. You have a bunch more time. It's only July 1st. If you wait to begin though it will get harder and harder, then you get behind and that messes with your head, making you think you are at a disadvantage.
Don't fall into that trap. Stay on top of it. Get started now if you haven't already!
I know you want to enjoy your summer but you also don't want your senior year to be a real hectic time either. I plan to enjoy the upcoming year with you all. We can't do that if we're all stressed out though.
So, get started. Post or not, but do your summer work! I hope to hear from you soon!
