Also, I'll have the characters names figured out when I finish coloring and such. For now my character Celessy is in there (girl with the pony tail if anyone hasn't seen the other comic) and Work Big is the girl with the heart one her shirt.
This is just the sketch. There's tons of scratch outs and spacing mistakes that I will sort out later, but for now everyone can see how horrendously messy I am. =D Oh and I've noticed that I do much better in pen on sketches so that's what I used. I don't know why I can't use pencil it just doesn't work for me.

Here's the second step to finishing my comic. I went over all the black lines and where there should be black lines with pen, I fixed all the mistakes with white acrylic paint, and scanned it into Photoshop. Once in Photoshop I used the poster edges filter on it and cut out all the parts that should be white.

The final product of my R.O.B. comic. It was colored in Prismacolor markers, Crayola markers, and Sharpies. When scanned into Photoshop I adjusted the colors manually and used the poster edges filter to make the colors more vibrant. So.. yay second comic accomplished! ^^

Characters: Marilla, Harley, Celessy, Ceil, & R.O.B.
Materials: Sketch paper, Prismacolor markers, Crayola markers, & Sharpie.
Edited in: Photoshop
Time taken: 2hrs.

Hey, You!
I've never heard of this game. (I'm sure you're not surprised.) It looks like it could be pretty intense, but I bet that depends on who's playing. I didn't know you and workbig hang out together. That's fun.
I think it's interesting to see how things progress from start to finish. Thanks for taking the "risk" to post this piece in its very early stage.
As far as the pen over pencil, thats just a quirk. In a perfect world the pencil would be the "go-to" tool but whatever works for you is fine.
I feel badly that several of you have recently found need of a working knowledge of Photoshop and have not yet gotten a chance to get to know it. We will certainly change that early in the year coming up. Whoever tells you it's easy has either got a mind like a computer, or has worked with it long enough that it just seems easy - BUT IT'S NOT! It's very complex and you really do have to learn to think like the program. I sooo get it now, but at first I was as lost as can be. But like I said, we will fix that.
Ok. Take care. Keep working and...watercolors, yeah... they really are wonderful.
haha i love the characters expressions!
That's for the comments!
Yes Mama B, that game gets extremely intense. haha, plus all my friends and I are really competitive so it gets a bit crazy.
Thanks for the comment on the expressions Be Fierce! I tried to draw expressions that suited the way all my friends and I play.
I'll be updating this post and adding the inked and corrected version of the comic next, after that will be the final colored version so everyone can see the steps I take when making these.
=D
This is fun to see the progress... like sketchfu in uberslow motion. lol
I look forward to seeing the next update. =}
Haha it is! Thankfully theres only three steps, so it won't be long until it's finished. ^^
Oh and I tried working on the watercolor today. Grr, the leaves are terrible. I have to yet again take the color off the page and figure something else out. The colors made it seem as if the leaves were on fire. T_T
I think I'll look at some sakura trees to fit the Japanese theme of the picture. That way the leaves will be pink and match the other colors, but the tree won't look like it's on fire.
In terms of watercolor think this way:
LESS IS MORE!
You are used to dealing with the vibrant colors of markers and so may be inclined to treat watercolors with the same intensity.
Lots of WATER is what you will be using instead and lots of layers. It is totally a build up process! Start slowly and add slowly. You can use a blowdryer to dry layers in between to speed things up a bunch!
See if that makes a difference and if you care to, photo it and post it and I will give you some more specific feedback.
Remember I'm here for you. :}
This is sweet!
The colors really help define the images and contribute to the emotional qualities of the piece, too.
I like the way you arranged all the elements of this piece (the composition). The robot gets "center stage" so to speak and the text is well-placed and easy to read. All of the characters gathered around the edges kind of hold it all together.
One thing... (sorry, I can't help it, I'm a teacher, lol) I am wondering about the black bars that make up your "frames". Do they have to be that thick? Because they are black and thick they seem to be very strong in my mind. I would prefer that they take more of a back seat in this piece.
All of the individual elements in a piece of work contain a "weight" in relation to each other element. In this work the Robot is obviously very "heavy" as it should be; this is due to size. The large black lettering is also appropriately heavy; size, placement and contrast work here. Your characters are appropriately weighted;they are smaller but the colors help attract your attention to them.
The black bars hold a lot of "weight" and I am wondering if their weight matches their importance. If they are not really important but are there to "support" the rest of the information, then maybe you need to adjust them next time. Or maybe they should be a less strong color.
This is just something to think about. Everything little you do either works for you or against you.
These anime pieces are a real passion of yours. I want to help you do them as well as possible. Besides they are fun for me, but I am just learning about them.
You know more about this than I do. I may be way off the mark. So think about this and let me know how you feel.
It's very well done.
This is the second comic I've ever done, I was expecting some constructive criticism so don't feel bad! I've actually never thought about how big or small the bars should be. Usually, in regular manga they are not very pronounced, unless there is something important happening within them. On chibi comics everything is rather deformed looking so, from the others I had seen, I decided the bars should be bigger. I don't actually know weather there is a set rule to this, but I can make them smaller if they take away from the rest of the image. On the note of changing the color I do want to be able to fade them into white in the center or something to that effect, but I haven't gotten to the point in Photoshop where I know how to edit them like that. So for now I want them to stay black, unless they have a reason for a certain color.
Thanks a ton for the feedback Mama B! It's given me things to think about that I hadn't considered before. ^^
Thanks for communicating so easily!
