- The first is the complete mandala of AIDA.
- I'm having some trouble with the sunflower.. I didn't use any paintbrushes. I used napkins and string for the green background and rice for the yellow petals and buttons for the middle. While painting the rice and buttons, I put paint in a ziplock bag and added in the stuff and shook it. Never once did I use a paint brush :) But it looks incomplete to me... HELP!
This is one i just now did. (more text mrs. brauer! lol)
- i used old colored paper for all of it. It took some time to get all the mosaic shapes done in the moon. But i love it. It looks like something I could hang up in my room because everything thing is moons, suns, and stars. :)

Hey,Dancer!
I'm going to comment primarily on the flower and the moon pieces.
I LOVE the process of the flower. It was really creative of you! I'm pleased and interested by the background of this one. I'm less crazy about the black outline around the petals. What if that were more of a green? (OK now you can get out the paintbrushes.) Also the amount of space the petals take up is a big percentage but they hold no detail to hold your interest. Maybe some variation in color or value would help. Did you look at a real one of these flowers when you did this? That would help. Or, create some details of your own imagining.
The buttons might need some additional beads on top of them to look more finished.
Now, the moon: There are some things about this I really like a lot. The little marks in the background (stars i think)are so sweet. The colors are lovely. The composition needs to be "tighter" not so spread out. The lettering needs to "fit" the space better. Your new concept to keep in mind is OVERLAPPING. If you begin to stack your visual elements, your compositions will become more interesting, more unified.
Have you been doing thumbnails of your work before you complete a piece as part of the planning stages? If not you should start!!! Doing multiple thumbnails gives you choices, and allows you the opportunity to work out compositional issues in small scale before you do the big piece. Let's consider the moon a study for a follow up piece. It will count for your summer work. Keep moving forward. I'm proud of you for continuing to work!! Thanks for posting.
ooooo.
okay.
thanks!
Hey Dancer! I don't want you to be discouraged. REALLY!!
I know it's hard working on your own. And don't worry about your grade for these pieces. I am grading on a wide range of elements like: number finished, creativity, effort, personal voice, etc.
I am more interested in summer work being an engagement in the process.
So be positive and let's talk when we all get back together. OK?
no i love the advice.
im just here at home doing stuff and i get so involved in it and what i really need is another set of eyes to help me. so i really appreciate this.
