I'm SO Proud of YOU!!! /*L*\
I have purposely been sitting back, not making a posting to see what would happen.
Ok yeah, I have been busy too, (I'll get to that in a minute) but I definitely have been checking in EVERY DAY and sending comments, encouragement and support to those who contribute.
AND LOOK WHAT HAS HAPPENED !!! *sniff, sniff, wipes tears*
You are starting to pick up the responsibility of keeping this going among yourselves!!!
NINE postings have been made since I last made one. Seriously, this is really exciting to me! There is so much potential in this venue. This kind of participation will help give you a head start for next year, even if it just keeps your head in the game. Kudos to all who are making the effort to check in and my special thanks to those who have taken the time to post, big or small.
Now, here's some news for you all! I have been in school all week, almost all day, almost every day! (I KNOW it's summer, haha!) Last week Miss Held (you know the young, blond, part time art teacher) got a full time job at Roger Bacon HS. So it was my job and Mrs. Baldock's, to choose a replacement for her. And now I can tell you we have a new art teacher for this year.
I am excited. I think she will be great. Some of you may know her. She taught art at SMOY.
Her name is Mrs. Wurzelbacher.
I spent way too much time in the principal's office this week (:-/) but it was worth it! I know the department will continue to be as strong as ever.
You are all so lucky! We have a wonderful program and you are a very important part of it!
Now here's to enjoying what's left of our summer, and while we're at it... LET'S MAKE SOME ART!!!!

PROJECTS!!
Soo, about that watercolor. I've decided I am going to make the leaves on the tree green. I PROMISE THIS WASN'T JUST A SPUR OF THE MOMENT DECISION.. I've had to redo the darn things three times now. The first reason for my decision is because every time I color them any form of yellow it looks like the tree is on fire. Secondly, if I try to dull the fall leaf colors it looks like vomit (literally, my dog is pregnant and hers looks the exact same.. ok tmi) Lastly, and this is going to sound uber weird, around one last night I woke up, looked down at the picture and thought of what it would look like with green leaves and what was there looked wonderful. So after many different colors the leaves are decidedly being green.
On another note, I've got the canvas for my next project. Well, for a commission I'm doing for a friend. *Sigh* The canvas is 24"x36" which I know is RIDICULOUS! But that's the size he wants it and it'll be good practice fore me. Anywho he wants it to look like a painting he saw at Newport so I have to do an acrylic landscape using all different hues of red. He's agreed to let me add things and take things out as I please because I don't want to copy the other artists work. So yeah.. that will probably take me the rest of the summer.
Don't worry though, there will still be many comics and watercolors coming for when I get ADD during the monster project. ^^

my first masterpiece is complete!

alrite so here it is...
im pretty glad with the way it came out bc at first i was very distressed. u see, i taped off the actual building part b4 i did the sky. well, i went to take the tape off and colors had leaked through like crazyy and lots of the paper got torn off. but after adding mucho layers, i was able to cover up the mistakes and so there u go!
New Comic
I started my second chibi comic today. It's of when my friends and I were playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the least likely person to win won. Haha, the sad part is that we were beaten by the person who was thinking only of how cool her character was.
Also, I'll have the characters names figured out when I finish coloring and such. For now my character Celessy is in there (girl with the pony tail if anyone hasn't seen the other comic) and Work Big is the girl with the heart one her shirt.
This is just the sketch. There's tons of scratch outs and spacing mistakes that I will sort out later, but for now everyone can see how horrendously messy I am. =D Oh and I've noticed that I do much better in pen on sketches so that's what I used. I don't know why I can't use pencil it just doesn't work for me.

Here's the second step to finishing my comic. I went over all the black lines and where there should be black lines with pen, I fixed all the mistakes with white acrylic paint, and scanned it into Photoshop. Once in Photoshop I used the poster edges filter on it and cut out all the parts that should be white.

The final product of my R.O.B. comic. It was colored in Prismacolor markers, Crayola markers, and Sharpies. When scanned into Photoshop I adjusted the colors manually and used the poster edges filter to make the colors more vibrant. So.. yay second comic accomplished! ^^

Characters: Marilla, Harley, Celessy, Ceil, & R.O.B.
Materials: Sketch paper, Prismacolor markers, Crayola markers, & Sharpie.
Edited in: Photoshop
Time taken: 2hrs.

update...
ok so today at artworks we got paired with design firms to help us with our work which is insane! i'm with tin box studios and the ppl are really nice. so, so far everythings been great except for the fact that i'm one of only two ppl in the whole group who have no clue about using photoshop and illustrator. its frustrating and overwhelming, so yesterday i googled tips on photoshop and learned a little, but really havent gotten anywhere which stinks. but anyway, thats just me venting a little so just ignore that haha
p.s. i'm about half way through this watercolor i started yesterday on the Taj Mahal, so i'll try to post it when im finished

hey big mama...when would be a good time for you to drop off the "pop up instructions" book at school?
by the way i have been working on something other than the pop ups...just so you don't think i haven't been doing anything at all. I call it Daddy's Lullaby. it's based off of the song "i gave my love a cherry" =)
Thanks...Workbig

Sketches
Lately I haven't been able to concentrate on my main watercolor piece at all. DO NOT FEAR THOUGH! I've been producing many random sketches. ^^;; Okey so I guess that isn't the best news in the world, but i don't want to fall behind so I figure practicing on random drawings is ok. Anywho, I was up at 4am yesterday (if anyone doesn't know I have insomnia, don't worry I've had it since I was a kid, but I digress) just sketching. It turned into a drawing of the main character from Vampire Knight (new manga I've been reading, the pictures are REALLY pretty) sitting on the moon. I thought she was really cute and pretty good (considering I need major practice at drawing people in sitting positions) so I decided to color her in. I finished coloring around 9pm tonight and scanned her into my computer. After 2hrs. of fixing her up (my scanner is out to destroy me) she is finally ready to be shown to the world! ^^
P.S. If you want to see the before and after from the scanner check my main blog, there's a link in my profile.

Character: Yuki Cross (Vampire Knight)
Materials: Sketch paper, Prismacolor markers, & Crayola markers.
Edited in: Photoshop

hey everyone-
so i started ArtWorks yesterday and its been going great! i'm working on the "TOM" project (The Outdoor Museum). basically it's all about graphic design and we'll be creating lots of(about 18??) images that will be printed as large billboards and displayed in public parks. the theme is "going green", so yesterday we started off by going to the krohn conservatory and sketching the plants. today we collaged with magazines about diff forms of green. we started getting into the basics of design and got to look at our project managers' work. some of the pieces were so amazing, and it was a little overwhelming- especially bc i really have no experience of using the computer for art. it all seemed over my head, but i've already learned a lot so i'm really looking forward to more.

A New Trick for This "Old Dog"
It's been a few days since a new post was put up on this site. I thought I'd let you know what I am doing.
Like some of you, I was at the ACT on Saturday the 14th. I know, my involvement was a less stressful part of the process than what you were expected to do. I have to say though, that it was an interesting experience for me in one respect. Having taught here for more than 20 years, it was certainly different to have so many guys in the classroom. It had to be nice for you all to be able to take it in your own school though.
For my art, I am working through a new process using Photoshop. It's a special-effect piece using my own photo. The process allows for the appearance of an exaggeration of the 3-D effect, manipulating focus within the depth of space. It is not really difficult to do although somewhat time consuming. The trick is in deciding where the image should be crisp and where it will be blurred. When it is finished, I will post it.
I have also revised the curriculum for the Fibers class. As a result of that, I will have to create some new work to use as examples, as well as some support materials for a new piece the class will be making.
I've also been doing some preliminary research for a drawing that I have to do this summer. I'm gathering reference images that I'll use to "build" the new work.
I hope summer is going well for everyone. Let us know what's happening in your world.

wow ok take note all June 12th workbig figured out how to put in a blog...sorry everyone im computer challenged. So to update on the art:
Of course i would be the one to choose the pop up book as one of my first projects, my mom says i should start off with an easier project but im really getting into it. Its comming along, first im laying out where things will go. I did some research and a lot of the pictures show some very elaborate pages (like the one if you type in pop up books, Alice and Wonderland - it's really cool) I'm kinda getting frustrated with how to make the objects pop up because although i was able to get some directions off the internet...im a visual learner. I went to the library and they said they didnt have pop up books because they didnt last very long...so hopefully b&n will have some. *Mamma B is it ok if you take an origionally fairy tale and portray it with your own words?
hope everyone is having a great summer...maybe ill have an art pool party at my house! hows that sound?
thanks <3 workbig
ps......i got over my fear of hights! I went on drop zone for the very first time yesterday!

Charting Your Progress
One of the best ways to to stay on task and to encourage yourself to continue to move forward, is to keep a record of what you have achieved to date. It allows you to see your progress each step of the journey.
I am a fastidious list maker - I'm sometimes teased for it. People notice and remark about the copious "post-its" around my desk. They remind me of pressing deadlines I need to meet and I find siblime personal satisfaction in crossing off the tasks and tossing the no-longer-needed slips into the trash as I accomplish each handwritten, and yes, sometimes color-embellished edict they display. The ability to see progress can be invigorating and self-affirming for me.
So I'm providing you the opportunity to feel that same sense of "Yay, me!" by adding a listing to the left side of this page where you can keep a tally of the number of pieces you have made this summer.
Everything counts! Sketches, sketchfus published, written reflections and other entries saved in your journal, pieces you give away (make sure you photograph them for us to see) and of course full-blown pieces are all elligible to be counted.
Let me know where you are on your path and I will keep the blog updated. Of course, when you come back to school in August you better have "the goods" to back up your claims. :-}

'Zilla and I are Feeling Kind of LONELY :'-(
I am not putting any pressure on you (heck yeah I AM), but it would be nice to have more conversation going on from more of you. One thing that occurs to me is that one person is getting a whole lot of personal advice and and critique (and kudos to her for taking advantage of it) but the rest of you are missing out!
I hope you are at least reading what's being discussed....
One thing we're talking about is having each of us do a drawing - maybe a cartoon-ish kind of thing, that would be a self-portrait of sorts that could be Photoshop*ed into the illustration in the heading. It would make it more personal. If you develop somthing that you want to use, email it to me in jpeg form, or even by snail mail and I can scan it and paste it into the image you see above. (I am in the phone book if you need my address. You know my name.)
In the meantime, THANKS to all who have made the effort to post and get involved! And YAY! to all who have started working!
(Two more still need to sign on and a reminder has been emailed to you, again.) :-)

Quick Comic

I got tired of watercoloring so I decided to take a break for a while and do a quick comic of my character.
Hah, my friend and I went to Circuit City the other day to look at the amps. He was getting really into it and all I could really concentrate on was the giant red demo button.
Anyway, this is my first mini comic in a series of random happenings that go on in my life.
I hope you all like it! =3

New Heading
Well as you can see, I'm working on a new heading. I haven't gotten it to fit exactly but I hope to soon. In the meantime tell me what you think and I'll take all your comments into consideration. And bottom line, it's just an experiment. It will probably change again. Oh, and 'Zilla, it was done on a Wacom. ;-) lol

A little help please..
I'm almost to the background on my newest piece, there's only one problem. I can't figure out if I want the leaves on the tree to be oranges, purples/reds, or greens.
I don't think greens would match the rest of the painting so I am in a bit of a pickle. Oh and if anyone couldn't tell the body of the tree is done in pencil, all the rest of the backgrounf is going to be leaves.
P.S. I just figured out how to post art in here so if anyone didn't see Alice she's under Celessy.

hey!
well, unfortunately i dont have any exciting stories to tell, but i can give u an update on what i've been up to...
so i joined sketchfu and created a sketch. i actually really liked it too, and of course the moment i pressed "publish" my internet went down (bc of all the storms we've had)and it didn't save! i was so disappointed! but i'll keep trying and maybe one will finally save :)
also, starting today and for the nxt 2 wks i'll be visiting this cute old lady at a nursing home. i have to help her eat, take her outside in her wheelchair and just chill out with her for a couple hrs each day. she said she was a nurse in the navy during WWII, which i thought was really interesting, but she didn't talk much about it. so with that and working my regular job at the lodge retirement community, i guess u could say i'm having my fill of time w/ the elderly :)
i did g2 barnes and noble 2day and found lots of cool books i wanna look at for some art inspiration. well, thats it for me rite now. later <3

The Web Is Getting Larger *grins the spider*...
One more person has signed on to be a part of the group!
Welcome to live love draw! Glad to see you have been caught up in the web, er fun! :-)
Three more names remain as potential members of the group.
Now here's the next step: don't just look - get involved! We want to hear from all of you. You know the old addage - the MORE, the merrier! You don't have to have finished anything - YET!
Just say HI! as brit brat did. OR, tell us about whatever is happening in your world.
Dancer, 'Zilla and I can carry it on our own if we have to but it won't be nearly as much fun.
And for those of you who are new to the blogging scene: click on the comments. There are some interesting side conversations going on in there. :-)
Hey Dancer, have you given any pony rides yet?

I've Got 3 Sketchfu Postings Now - Yes 3!
I'm throwing down the gauntlet!
I'm sure I'll slow down eventually.
Did you know there is a group of artists (maybe several groups) that make a commitment to do "A Painting A Day"? Google it and see what you get.
I'm not there, yet but I am going to do my darndest to be much more productive this summer.
I know, there are other things to do in life as well but....that whole thing about getting better....a lot of it is about volume. The more you do the better you get. That's one reason AP is so demanding. It requires volume in order to achieve growth.

I've Been Told
Looks like 'Zilla gets the prize for having done the first summer piece!
I logged on today to read that she has completed a piece, in watercolor, and has it posted to her website.
If you want to contest this claim, please let us all know.
I have been working on the supplies list this weekend. You will likely be happy to know I have a few things up my sleeve for the upcoming year.
So many supplies... so little time to make art.
If you're not getting on to find out what's been happening, I wonder if you're going to be ready in August.
Come on! Let's get some real dialogue going! Don't be intimidated! It only gets easier and more fun!
